The Little Boy Tom and His Cat

Once upon a time, in a quiet village near a forest, there lived a little boy named Tom. Tom was six years old. He had big brown eyes and a smile that made everyone feel happy. He loved to play in the garden, chase butterflies, and listen to the wind in the trees.

One afternoon, after a long rain, Tom went outside to jump in puddles. As he splashed around, he heard a soft sound—meow… meow… He stopped and listened. The sound was coming from behind the gate.

Curious, Tom walked closer. There, shivering in the mud, was a tiny gray kitten. Its fur was wet, and its eyes looked sad.

“Oh no, you’re all alone,” Tom said softly.

He gently picked up the kitten and wrapped it in his sweater. The kitten didn’t hiss or run. It just purred quietly and closed its eyes.

Tom ran inside. “Mom! Look what I found!” he said, holding up the kitten.

His mother looked surprised. “Poor thing,” she said. “It must be lost.”

“Can I keep him? Please? I’ll take care of him every day!”

His mother thought for a moment, then nodded. “Alright. But he’s your responsibility now.”

Tom smiled wide. He named the kitten Whiskers because of its long, white whiskers that twitched every time it sniffed something new.

From that day, Tom and Whiskers were never apart.

They ate breakfast together—Tom with toast and jam, Whiskers with a small bowl of milk. When Tom built castles with blocks, Whiskers knocked them over with his paws. When Tom was sad, Whiskers would curl up in his lap and purr until he smiled again.

They had a favorite game. Tom would tie a string to a stick and drag it around the room. Whiskers would leap and chase it, his tiny claws tapping the floor.

But one morning, something scary happened.

Tom was playing outside when Whiskers saw a bird fly by. Quick as lightning, Whiskers ran after it and climbed up a tall tree.

“Whiskers, no!” Tom shouted. But the kitten had already reached a high branch.

Then Whiskers stopped and looked down. He was too scared to climb back.

Tom ran inside. “Dad! Help! Whiskers is stuck in the tree!”

His father came with a tall ladder. Slowly, he climbed up and reached the kitten.

“It’s okay, little one,” he said softly, taking Whiskers into his arms.

Tom hugged Whiskers tightly. “Don’t scare me like that again,” he whispered.

Whiskers licked his nose and purred.

From that day on, Whiskers stayed closer to the ground. And Tom always made sure to keep an eye on him.

Seasons passed. Tom grew taller. Whiskers grew fluffier. But they were still best friends—laughing, playing, and dreaming together.

And every night, when the stars filled the sky, Whiskers would curl up beside Tom’s pillow, and they would fall asleep, safe and happy.
