Luna Counts the Ladybugs
Luna was a little girl who loved red things—red apples, red balloons, and red ladybugs!
One sunny morning, Luna went to her garden with a small notebook and a big smile.
“I will count ladybugs today!” she said.
She sat near the flowers and waited. Suddenly, a tiny red ladybug landed on her finger.
“Hello, little one! You are number one!” she giggled and wrote the number 1 in her notebook.
Soon, another ladybug crawled on a leaf nearby.
“You are number two!” said Luna, writing 2.
Then another one flew in—this one had no spots!
“You are number three. You look different, but still lovely,” Luna smiled.
As Luna looked around, more ladybugs came.
4 on the rose bush.
5 hiding under a leaf.
6 crawling on her shoe!
She laughed and counted each one aloud.
“Seven, eight, nine, and ten!” she shouted, as ten ladybugs danced around her in the sunlight.
Luna clapped. “Ten red ladybugs! That’s the most I’ve ever seen!”
Suddenly, a soft breeze blew. The ladybugs lifted their tiny wings and flew up into the sky, one by one.
Luna waved goodbye. “Thank you for playing with me!”
She looked at her notebook:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
“I counted ten today,” she whispered. “Tomorrow, maybe I’ll count butterflies!”
And with that, Luna went back inside for a warm cup of milk and a big afternoon nap—dreaming of numbers and flying ladybugs.
